FAQ
-
Pelvic health is a specialty in physical therapy that treats BOTH women and men for bowel, bladder, and sexual problems. For example, some common areas we treat are urine leakage, constipation, pelvic, hip, and lower back pain.
-
We will start with a comprehensive examination. Our main goal is to help you feel comfortable. We understand that this is a sensitive area and if at any time you feel uncomfortable or change your mind we can adjust questions or the examination.
We will ask questions…about your expectations, goals, general health, exercise, bowel, and bladder habits. We also ask about sexual activities. These questions help us to get an understanding of the problem, guides our examination, and helps with diagnosis.
We will do a physical examination…a full compressive examination including functional analysis of how you walk (gait), squat, and balance. This is important and often overlooked. How we move may put increased pressure or overuse on our joints and muscles.
We will assess your Breathing, Flexibility, & Muscle Strength/Performance…breathing, flexibility, & muscle strength, performance can indirectly or directly affect how our pelvic floor muscles are working. For example, if we breathe mostly with our chest and neck muscles, it can create instability in our core, contributing to pelvic floor muscles dysfunction.
We will do a Pelvic Floor Muscle Examination…an internal or external pelvic floor examination will be done to determine how your pelvic floor muscles are working. An external examination is done outside clothes. An internal examination is an examination where you remove your clothes and underwear. Palpation of muscle tone, strength and coordination follow to determine how to improve pelvic floor muscle’s function. We ask for your consent during each part of the examination and explain what to expect in each part of the examination thoroughly. We also provide chaperones upon request to ensure you feel safe and at ease.

Hybrid physical therapy is a combination of in person and virtual physical therapy services. The first session is in person to ensure a comprehensive assessment and the highest quality of care. The subsequent sessions may be done over Zoom (if you are traveling, for accountability, or for preference) or in the clinic. If you would like to request in-home services, please contact us.
-
This is decided at the initial evaluation after a comprehensive examination. Usually between 3-6 sessions is good start, but is based on your expectations/goals, impairments, and movement dysfunctions found.

Having urinary incontinence, pain, constipation, pelvic organ prolapse symptoms can be debilitating and lonely. No one talks about these issues. I am a step in the right direction for healing and my ultimate goal is to give clients/patients their life back.

We are an out-of-network, cash pay practice. This means we do not take insurance or Medicare/Medicaid.
Patients can refer themselves directly to our practice. This is also known as “fee for service,” so you may pay session by session or buy a discounted package.
Our model is similar to a concierge service in that you will be with a board-certified pelvic health and orthopedic specialist, one-on-one, for 55 minutes during a new consultation (or 45 minutes for a follow up visit).
If you’re curious WHY we do not accept insurance, please continue reading:
When using an in-network insurance, the insurance may dictate how many sessions you receive for physical therapy. You are responsible for your co-pay and full deductible, with insurance covering your remaining costs.
Insurance-based-practices have some shortcomings:
Patient treatment times are limited. This model causes burnout because specialists need to see 16-18 patients per day.
There may be restrictions for care, and insurance may decline the necessary treatment plans to cut costs.
A cash-based-practice has many benefits, including:
One-on-one treatments with board-certified pelvic health specialists.
There will be no aids, EVER.
Our costs are transparent and you will know them upfront.
You have more freedom to choose the specialist.
You may pay through the simple practice website with a credit/debit card on file, cash, or check.
If you have any questions, please give us a call 310-344-1009.

We have a 24-hour cancellation policy. Monday appointments need to be cancelled by 12:00pm the Friday before. If you do not cancel within 24 hours, you will be charged a cancellation fee. We understand there may be extenuating circumstances causing the cancellation; these will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
We do our best to be early or on time to all appointments and appreciate the same courtesy.
